The demand for Concept/Theme inspired music and audio through non traditional stores is continuing to increase at an ever faster pace. In a recent industry study of the most requested gift categories, music ranked number five out of a list of seventeen. More than half the music buying public are Baby Boomers, the same generation least likely to shop in a record store for their music needs.
Music made available to the 35-54 year old adult is very successful as it taps into a captive audience that is not being properly addressed by the mainstream record stores. According to statistics just released by the BPI, CDs still make up more than three quarters of the UK album market. 76.1% of all album sales were on CD last year while digital was just 23.5%.
Separately in the US where music trends are set the NPD's "Annual Music Study" reported that CD buyers increased for the 2nd consecutive year and grew 2%
last year.
There were a variety of reasons consumers cited for purchasing more CDs, including a perceived improvement in the quality and value of the music available. Even as Apple's iTunes approaches its tenth anniversary next year, there are still nearly twice as many CD buyers in the U.S. as there are paid digital-music downloaders.
"CDs are the gift that keep giving, which proves that even in an increasingly digital age, consumers will respond to quality content and strong perceived value, even if it comes in a physical package," said Russ Crupnick, senior vice president of industry analysis at NPD. "The CD still has a powerful attraction for mainstream consumers who enjoy owning the package and assortment of songs from their favorite artists."
As music stores have disappeared from the High Street and Shopping Malls in recent years there are fewer places for consumers to buy music and many simply order their CDs online. Selling CDs from an Interactive display allows the consumer to preview the music, just as they are able to do on websites such as amazon.co.uk, but with the advantage that they are getting the physical product. Most consumers now know that a CD is a much higher quality sound source than a download and is the ideal and essential backup for music stored on fallible hard drives.
With such a diverse range of categories, including; Lifestyle, Relaxation & Spa, World Music, Celtic, Nature & Music, Childrens, Legends and Zodiac titles, retailers can choose the titles that best suit their customer profile. Interactive music displays are supplied free on loan, displaying and promoting the CDs in a very visual way in store and enabling customers to hear a sample of the music title before purchase. Our market research confirms that this increases sales by a ratio of four to one over just displaying CDs on shelves. The display is the ultimate sales and marketing tool, they offer personal customer service and attractive presentation as well as building brand awareness and providing in-store entertainment- all in a single unit!

The majority of the music tracks on Global Journey CDs are owned outright by the company. As both copyright and publication rights owners, retailers playing and selling only Global Journey music in store are exempt from paying for a public performance licence. To retail store owners this represents a significant saving, especially for multiple site owners.
At seasonal/promotional times or at least a minimum of 2-3 times per year we suggest a review of the sales of current titles. As we introduce new titles/seasonal titles throughout the year any slower selling titles can be replaced by new releases. A new graphic panel and MP3 chip will be produced, again, totally free of charge. This keeps the music selection fresh and exciting for the retailer and the customers as well as seasonally changing with annual promotional periods. In this way many of our retailers have been continuously selling our products for over 5 years.
We also produce music tracks and catalogues suitable for licensing. Many TV, Film and Radio Production Companies use Global Journey Music as sound tracks and sound bites. Our music is also used in Theatre and Stage productions.
MOH is a source of revenue for PRS/ASCAP.
Any company playing MOH on their company telephone system has to pay an annual license fee to PRS/ASCAP. In the UK this is approximately £4.00 per line with an annual standing charge of £75.00. As we own the rights to our music we can allow commercial customers to use our music for MOH systems, with no fees payable to PRS/ASCAP.

10+ lines £95 per annum.
